Mistake 1. Paying for performance
Most of time client who are new to the industry, want to be paid you when the site does well. Well clients says it pay for performance. For the website designers and SEO gurus it is very dangerous mistake. In other words clients want to see how well they place or how his sites going well before he pay you.
Actually this performance has noting to do with you. In SEO, You could do the right and not end up on the first spot of Google. Similarly a web designer create site and writer write the book but have no sales due to lack of marketing . Its not your fault that product is noting up its full potential. Payment is due to what you have to work it out not on the base of control performance standards.
Mistake 2. Going partners with someone on an idea
Here is another mistake, is going to partnership with someone. He want you in this case when you do lot of work for them. In exchange for the you actual payment, they give you the percentage. This mistake happened when you are a new freelancer and will agree to this.
Mistake 3. Cloning someone else’s site
Web designers are particularly vulnerable to this mistake. Most often, people come to them and say they want an ‘exact copy’ of this other site they don’t own. Clients who want you to flat out copy someone else’s site should be avoided for two reasons. For starters ‘code theft’ is morally and legally wrong so it may get you in legal trouble.
This mistake particularl vulnerable for web designers. Some time client want an exact copy of site which is not his own. Freelancer have to avoided this mistake for two reasons, firstly code theft is morally and legally wrong which could take you in legal trouble .
More importantly than that however is the fact that this person who asked you to copy a site has questionable ethics. If they don’t think anything about stealing someone else’s work, they won’t think twice about turning on you as well.
Mistake 4. Discounting your price
If a product is new or not selling in the market then you provide your service in low price. This is true if you don’t have client then you must do what your potential client asks you “what’s your best rate”? There’s an old offline saying that says if you’re losing a penny on every sale, you can’t make it up in volume. It means if you raise your prices then will go elsewhere, or you will be kick out from the bunch not even pay you.
Mistake 5. Registering and hosting your client’s site
Most of the online books says the this is easy way to reoccurring money for freelancers. On some level that is true; it is a way to make reoccurring income, but it is far from easy. Once you register and host your client’s site, they’ll think they own you. Soon they’ll start calling you for anything tech related. If the site goes down, it’s your fault. If there’s a storm outside and Internet goes down, it’s your fault.
